Internet Manifesto

"Consume less, produce more." - me

(I'll flesh this out more later)

Why I made a website (and why you should too)

Out with the new, in with the old

Similar to most people on this website, I wanted a place online that was completely my own space, away from all the noise, drama, and limits of social media. I want to return to a time where the internet was a place for discovery and exploration, not mindless scrolling for hours on end. I want active, not passive. Back to a time when things had character.

Nowadays, "modern" is almost synonymous with "bland". From the change in modern architecture, to logos, to website design, just about everything is more... boring.

A creative outlet

I have severe ADHD, so my hobbies shift pretty frequently. One aspect has always persevered though- My need to create. Almost all of my hobbies involve C R E A T I N G in some way; Video editing, graphic design, web design, 3D modeling, even doing woodwork with my dad in our garage. While making a website from scratch is admittedly a lot harder than sites like Wordpress, it gives you full creative freedom on every single aspect and really unlocks so many more options and cool things you can do. Like (sorry doesnt work just yet lol)

Finding a community

It's no secret that making friends and genuine connections is near impossible now. Despite being so connected, we're far more distant than ever before. Loneliness is an epidemic, and making a personal website is a great way to connect and interact with like-minded people and start forming those connections that we long for.

Retraining my brain

Creating a website takes actual time and effort... lots of it. From learning html, to css, to javascript. Then actually planning out, designing, and implenting your website. Not to mention going back and bugfixing. You've got your work cut out for you (I've never understood that saying. If your work is cut out for you, wouldn't that make it easier?).

"Society"

Parasocial relationships

Simp culture. Twitch streamers.

"Treat yourself!"

everyone is more selfish (treat yourself/do what makes you happy). Therapy in other countries vs here.

consumeconsumeconsume

Tom Clancy's The Division

Division (right vs left, men vs women) no one is open minded anymore. so much shame and judgement upon others. "If you're not with me, you're against me."

Not so social media

Mostly just memes and conspiracies. Barely any actual interaction before. Everyone chasing their 5 seconds of fame. Myspace as goofy as it was was ACTUAL social media. Social media and likes/attention instead of connecting. Self confidence issues from filters, edits, and people posting only good parts of their life. Tiktok literally has a built in filter when you use the camera even with "no filter" on.

Above average is the new average

Sigma grindset/dating apps/etc. People expect a 10/10, making buttloads of money, etc.

Late stage capitalism

I'll be completely honest, I have no idea what actually defines late stage capitalism vs normal capitalism. But to me, late stage capitalism is when capitalism no longer benefits the everyday person. It only benefits the pockets of the CEOs. Ideally, capitalism encourages innovation and rewards it with $$$. Late stage capitalism encourages abusing your customers since they have no say anyway to make extra profit. It encourages ad space and microtransactions. It encourages selling your data. Video games is the main thing that comes to mind, but its honestly everywhere. Social media, streaming services, search engines, even having to "rent" features in your own CAR bro (crying emoji).

Privacy? What's that?
